Tom Dixon’s London Underground In Noho

Lighting, Furniture, Accessories…”To Illuminate And Furnish The Future.” I love this design house, Tom Dixon is simply a global force as an amazing designer and artisan. I have often seen his work in Architectural Digest, dwell, and Monocle just to mention a few design aficionado publications.

The past week New York City was alive with must-see design destinations and the UK design studio Tom Dixon’s London Undergroundwas one of the few destinations I got a chance to attend. The London Underground was a subterranean showcase of the new Tom Dixon Luminosity Collection at the Bleecker Street Theater in the Noho Design district.

Tom Dixon stated in one interview “our design team have transformed the secret basement theater on Bleecker Street with a Luminosity show, a subterranean broadcasting station for Surface magazine, a pop-up shop from Fab.com(a cool online marketplace for discovering everything design – click here to check it out) and a coffee bar from Stumptown Coffee Roasters.” This was considered (I’m told) “British eccentricity classic New York cool.” Let’s take a look at this new Tom Dixon collection and the underground’s “Luminosity!”

Etch Light Web Copper

Etch Light Web Copper

The ETCH Light Web is a vast 65cm wide shade with an unusual open structure, designed to cast atmospheric angular shadows when lit. Said to be “inspired by mathematics an irregular pentagon shape is repeated across the body to create a total sphere.” Click here for pricing and global retail partners.

The ETCH Shade is digitally manufactured made by employing an industrial process used to produce electronic products including circuit boards and the method allows for intricate detailed patterns to be cut directly into the metal. The geodesic structures are made up of sections of 0.4mm etched metal sheets with a detailed pattern that casts a mass of intricate shadows when lit.

The above wall text reads (which was the “epitome” of this showcase): Explore our adventures in illumination, shadow-play and new light sources.

An attractive display of pendant lights clustered together creating a very sexy and luminous chandelier effect in the middle of the the display room. The effect of the lighting arrangement was augmented, by placing a tray full of water centered beneath the cluster of lights to cast a reflection of light luminosity from underneath the pendants: Lustre Light Round, Lustre Light Square, Lustre Light Wedge
